A Review on Breast Cancer Biomarkers BRCA1 and BRCA2DOI: 10.5923/j.rct.20120101.01 Keywords: BRCA1, BRCA2, Breast cancer, Mutations Abstract: About 5-10% of breast carcinomas are hereditary and BRCA1 and BRCA2 play a major role in the hereditary susceptibility for this disease. Germline mutations in the BRCA2 cancer susceptibility gene are associated with an increased risk of pancreatic cancer. The likelihood of harboring a BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation is dependent on one's personal and/or family history of cancer and can be estimated using various mutation probability models.
