Abstract:

Environmental conditions, changing locations of mobile hosts and structural changes in a wireless network can easily affect and change the reliability of a system. Nevertheless, changing locations of mobile nodes are considered a major problem that obstructs systems reliability. In this study, the link reliability problem and aim at optimizing the arrival percentage of transmitted data at the receiver’s end. We also develop a probabilistic model that takes into account the fading nature of wireless networks. The model establishes a relationship between the link reliability, the distance between communicating nodes and the transmitted power. By applying this probabilistic model to a multi-hop network, an end-to-end route reliability model is derived and analyzed. The optimum reliability model is then developed and simulated. The simulation provides an improved end-to-end route reliability, taking into consideration the wireless broadcast property and fade state independence between different pairs of nodes. Simulation results show that by adjusting the transmission power, transmission throughput is optimized, thereby increasing the end-to-end reliability.
