Abstract:

Coronaviruses are one kind of viral pathogens that could cause various pathological syndromes in human and animals, including the global “SARS” epidemic in 2003. Coronaviruses possess the largest genome among all known plus-RNA viruses, which utilize host ribosome to translate viral proteins after cell-entry. For coronaviruses, these viral proteins include non-structural proteins, structural proteins and accessory proteins. The essential role of these viral proteins in viral replication makes them the perfect target for both academic research and pharmaceutical design, which resulted in a world-wide trend of “structural genomics” projects on these proteins. The paper reviewed the recent progress of these projects providing insight into the ancient but mysterious viruses.
