Systematic Study of Chinese Medicine Herb Pairs(Ⅴ)—— Herb Pair of Salvia Miltrorrhiza and Panax Notoginseng

A famous herb pair consisting of Salvia miltrorrhiza (SM) and Panax notoginseng (PN) possesses significant protective functions on the cardiovascular, gastrointestinal and liver because their congenial effects become stronger after combination. It was widely used in the treatments of coronary heart disease, angina pectoris, and symptoms caused by Qi and blood stagnation such as palpitation and chest distress. Nowadays, there are already various preparations consist of SM and PN on the market such as Compound Danshen tablets, Compound Danshen granules, Compound Danshen drops, Coronary Danshen tablets, Coronary Danshen capsules and so on. During the past few decades, the herb pair had attracted more and more scientists' attention for the gradual clarification. Different combination ratio is essential to the extraction, stability and pharmacologic effect of their active ingredients. This paper mainly focuses on the summary of present development on the herb pair, in order to provide more references for the further research of herb pair of SM and PN.
