Luoghi, territori e paesaggi del teatro: per un approccio geografico al rapporto fra azione teatrale e dimensione spaziale

Theatre takes place in a concrete territorial dimension. Theatre springs from the territory, and at the end goes back to it, within a circular movement between, on one side, the opportunities and thelimitations imposed by the places where the performances take place and, on the other side, the outcomes that these theatrical activities produce in the socially shared perception of spaces. Therelationship between theatre and places is here approached through the analysis of the processes of localization, the opposition between closed spaces and open ones, the intertwining of the temporaland the spatial dimension. In the second part of the article, the author concentrates on the relationship between theatre and landscape. These two elements, as stated both by historians (suchas Cruciani and Serino) and geographers (such as Turri) share many characteristics. At the end, the author explains the potentialities offered by theatrical actions to improve “territorial education.
