Ecological awareness and environmental themes are often noted in writing onthe mangaka Osamu Tezuka (1928-1989), but there is still no comprehensivestudy of the concept of nature in his work. This paper explores environmentalcontent in Tezuka’s work, focusing on his treatment of contemporary reality,and assessing his contribution to toxic discourse in realist fiction and sciencefiction, and to changing attitudes towards war and environmental protection
