Los ojos de Olimpia. Diez versiones de una escena de terror = Olimpia's Eyes: Ten versions of a horror scene

E.T.A. Hoffmann es el autor de las escenas más espeluznantes de la literatura alemana y una de ellas se encuentra en El hombre de la arena ( Der Sandmann ), de 1816, analizado por Sigmund Freud como paradigma de lo siniestro. De este relato existen numerosas ediciones y toda suerte de versiones en espa ol: antiguas y muy recientes, para especialistas y para ni os, algunas muy brillantes, otras simplificadas y algunas llenas de errores. Nueve de ellas, de entre 1962 y 2009, se analizan en este estudio con el fin de descubrir cómo el tipo de edición o el deseo de suavizar el contenido influyen en la traducción. E. T. A. Hoffmann wrote some of the most terrifying scenes in German literature, and one of them is to be found in "The sandman" ("Der Sandmann"), published in 1816, analysed by Sigmund Freud as a paradigm of the sinister. There are numerous editions of this story and all manner of versions in Spanish: some old and some very recent; some intended for specialists and others for children; some quite brilliant and others which have been dumbed down and are full of errors. Nine of these versions, published between 1962 and 2009, are analysed in the present study with a view to identifying how the characteristics of the edition or the desire to tone down the content influence the translation.
