The Reasons of Field Hokey Players in Turkey for Selecting This Field and Their Expectations

The aim of this research is to determine the personal variables, reasons for selecting and competing in this field andexpectations of Field Hockey Players in Turkey. As part of the research, a survey on field hockey players was conducted; andthe data was analyzed to obtain results. The total field of the study consists of 310 players from 31 clubs (19 men, 12 women)that competed in the Indoors Hockey Tournament that took place in 2009 Alanya (Antalya). The sample group consists of 108volunteered players (72 men, 36 women). The relationship between the reasons for their choosing and playing this sport andtheir expectations were analyzed in terms of the sex and experience variables by considering percentage and frequencyparameters by using t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) for p<0.05. The results showed that Field Hockeyplayers in Turkey are generally college (university) students of highly-educated working parents and have normal life standard. Itwas also found out that the players liked playing and started playing as a hobby. The players said that their families had been afactor for their playing and that they aim to make the national team and to represent their country. Some stated that their aim isto be physical education trainers or just to be physically healthy. It was also found that media had very little effect for theirchoosing this sport and those they had no desire to become famous.
