Some Observations about Leaders in the Black CommunityKeywords: African-American , public sociology , leadership , elites , institutions , black sociology , race relations Abstract: In a paper not previously published, the founding president of the North Carolina Sociological Association explores changing leadership styles among black leaders. By the 1960s, when this paper was written as a thought piece, leadership patterns had changed from those embeded in local institutions towards leaders who could master complex legal issues. Four leadership styles are found and discussed.
