EXPERIENCE IN SCANNING HISTORICAL DOCUMENTS OF THE OFICINA GUAINASES DE GRAVURA

Experience report regarding the digitization ofhistorical documentation arising from theactivities of the Oficina Guianases de Gravura,an important art movement in Pernambucothat lasted from 1974 to 1995 and whosecollection is currently under the responsibilityof the Department of Art Theory of the FederalUniversity of Pernambuco. The articledescribes the scanning process, enumeratingthe following steps: identification andpreparation, scanning, selection, databaseconstruction, technical processing and deliveryof digital documents on the Internet. Asresults, files in digital media were obtained,providing its conservation in this type of mediaand its availability to the public. Afterparticipating in this work it can be understoodthat the scanning provided the conservation ofthe memory of great artists from Pernambuco,besides enabling that a larger number ofpeople have access to the collection throughthe Internet, contributing to the freedissemination of information. It appearstherefore that the digitization of printeddocuments is currently one of the mostefficient means for their preservation, being ofgreat importance to society.
