Social support as a strategy to cope with culture shock

This article presents an overview of the cross-cultural research on the social support as a culture shock coping strategy. Social support is analyzed as one of the major strategies which positively correlates with successful level of adaptation in sojourners. Major groups of people who can provide social support are categorized based on the criteria of cultural identity and closeness of social ties.
