A fast electromagnetic solver for TM waves with compact sweep of scalar WE-FDTD schemesKeywords: FDTD , scalar wave equation , TM waves , half sweep , quarter sweep Abstract: Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method has become a very important tool in computational electromagnetic. Recently, there is other formulation, namely as the scalar wave-equation finite-difference time-domain (WE-FDTD), that can potentially be used as an electromagnetic solver. In this paper, we discuss the compact sweep of scalar wave equation finite difference time domain (WE-FDTD) schemes namely as full-, half-, and quarter-sweep for approximating the solution of the transverse magnetic (TM) waves. Stability, accuracy and efficiency of the schemes are investigated and discussed. The results shown that the compact WE-FDTD schemes produce offer big advantages as an alternative electromagnetic solver in terms of better stability and fast execution time to nearly a half and a quarter of the time executed by the conventional FDTD method.
