Civil Society in Romania and Central and Eastern Europe

The concept of civil society has a long and rich tradition in the political thought and activity of the Western world, the identification of its first forms of manifestation often intersecting both human rights issues and the first aspects of democracy in the modern world. Moreover, the essence of the last decades’ changes in Central and Eastern Europe followed naturally the democratic evolution, as well as the state of justice. Therefore, the concept of civil society has a special significance, and in order to understand its deep meaning a more through investigation, a comparative analysis and its compulsory historical survey should be taken into account.
