The Role of Electronystagmography in Determining the Etiology of VertigoKeywords: Electronystagmography , central vertigo , peripheral vertigo. Abstract: Objective: Vertigo is a symptom which seems frequently in Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) Clinics. Causation of vertigo is so complicated. Clinicians use distinct procedures and apply detailed investigation for differential diagnosis. Electronystagmography (ENG) is one of process which is helpful for diagnosis. We want to evaluate the effectiveness of ENG for differential diagnosis in patients with vertigo in this study.Methods: Total 27 patients (three were male, 24 were female) who have vertigo and have not definitive diagnosis were included to study.Results: ENG test results were normal in four patients (14.8%), central pathology in one (3.7%) patient, and peripheral vestibular pathology in 22 (81.5%) patients.Conclusion: From these results and evidence ENG is helpful for differential diagnosis of vertigo but most important method is narration of symptom and complete medical examination.
