Abstract:

Objective: aimed to investigate the seropositivity of cytomegalovirus (CMV), rubella and toxoplasmosis in the pediatric population in Van Lake region. Methods: In this study, IgM and IgG antibodies for CMV, rubella and toxoplasmosis obtained from plasma of children between 0-18 years age who came with various complaints. Results: IgG antibody positivity for CMV, rubella and toxoplasmosis were 93,1%, 76,1%, 8,4% and IgM antibody positivity were 9,1%, 2,6%, 0,4%, respectively. The seropositivity of CMV, rubella and toxoplasmosis increased significantly with age. IgG antibody positivity for CMV, rubella and toxoplasmosis were 100%; 97.5% and 21.8%, respectively for girls between the ages of 15-18 years.Discussion: Our population has an exposure to infectious agents and therefore the risk of congenital or acquired CMV infection is high due to high seropositivity for CMV. There is especially a high risk of toxoplasmosis infection in our region. Therefore the public should be educated about the spreading of CMV and toxoplasmosis and the prevention of toxoplasmosis infections. Vaccination is important for the prevention of congenital rubella syndrome.
