Abstract:

The article shows the origin and meaning of the most common Italian words ending in -ata/-ta based on data drawn from the most recent formal rules of semantics, encompassing both denominative and deverbative word forms, and comparing them with matching Polish structures in order to have a direct connection with each other. The difficulty in translating these structures and related word endings into Polish is mainly due to the difference between the morphological system of the two languages, and the interpretation of such rules in real context. This analysis addresses a range of important issues about the regularity of the Polish language in matching word and verb formation from a lexical and syntactic point of view.
