The relationship between the school administrators’ anger control and stress coping methods and their conflict management style

Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to determine the school administrators’ approaches of stress coping and anger control that what extent predicted their conflict-management styles. For this purpose, three different scales those are “Organizational Conflict Management Scale”, “The State-Trait Anger Scale” and “Stress Coping Style Scale” were applied to the 279 school administrators who work in the province of Mersin. The results show that administrators’ anger control and stress coping approaches is significantly associated with and predicted the conflict management styles. Administrators’ anger control level is significant predictor of "integration" style, and emotion-focused stress management is significant predictors of “compromises", "domination" and "avoidance" styles. However, problem-focused (positive) and emotion-focused (negative) approaches are significant predictors of the "compromise" style. Administrators who uses integration style has low levels of anger and can control their anger. Administrators who tend to emotion-focused to stress cope uses compromise, avoidance, and domination styles. However, the administrators who tend to emotion-focused and problem-focused to stress cope use consensus style.
