I samma b t eller sida vid sida? En diskursanalys av h gskolebibliotek i dagspressen

This article examines a debate about the planning of a new university college library in Bor s, Sweden. From a discourse analytic viewpoint, discourses in the following orders of discourse were identified: the library's existence, where the library is constructed as mainly physical or mainly virtual; accessibility, where accessibility in libraries is constructed as virtual or physical; media, where media in libraries are constructed as electronic, printed, books, journals, databases; user groups, where the library's user groups are constructed as researchers, students and the general public; cooperation, where cooperation between libraries is constructed as joint libraries or between public and research libraries; tasks, where the library's tasks are constructed as collecting, preserving, providing access to information, providing access to cultural experiences, teaching, being a meeting place, supporting democracy. The article concludes with a discussion of indications of social change and the possibilities of studying academic library buildings on a discursive level.
