La terminologia en els serveis lingüístics universitaris del País Valencià: panorama general i noves tecnologies(Terminology in univesity language services in the Valencian region: general view and new technologies)

This article presents the results of a study on how terminological information is created, managed and used in university language services in the Valencian Region. After introducing their features and analysing the tasks commissioned to them, especially those related with terminological management, we also pay special attention to the computer tools which help fulfil university language services' purposes.The study was applied to staff working in language consultancy and terminology services in four public universities within the Valencian area. The main reason for this research is to describe the job opportunities in this field for graduates in Translation and Interpreting in order to provide indications aimed at improving the programmes of study related with the tasks required in practice.The text begins with an introduction, followed by an account of the objectives which we intended to achieve and a general description of the university language services. Next, we focus specifically on how the use and management of terminology are carried out, and we explain how we designed our study and how we came to the drawn conclusions.The article ends with a description of the results obtained from our study and the conclusions we came to, among which the need of a broader definition of the terminological activity in university language centres and the adaptation of the translator trainees' profile to the professional tasks required are emphasised. This research has been a first approach to the object of our research and we wish to extend it with similar studies in the future.
