Publicity of Erzurum at the Turkish Written Press in the Context of the 2011 Winter Universiade Games

Particularly occurring with the technological developments in communications field, today sport organizations has assumed a new and important mission. Because of mass interest and curiosity, sports organizations are an important agenda subject in media. For that reason, sports organizations become an effective promotional tool for country / territory / region. In this context, this study's subject is 2011 Winter Universiade and Erzurum. And, host of the games was given to Erzurum by the FISU, reflections of this situation on Turkish written press is discussed in this study. For this purpose, 16 January 2007 (taken ownership of the home) and 25 January 2007 (the subject of the news media has lost the impact at that time) covering the time period, the universe of the written press which has got scanning archives for the web sites Zaman, Hürriyet, Sabah, Milliyet, Vatan, Türkiye, Fanatik newspapers were examined with the method of content analysis. The findings are confirmed that sports organizations have become an effective promotional tool for a region where has been a central point of attraction.
