EFFECT OF THINNING ON THE NATURAL MOISTURE CONTENT OF Eucalyptus grandis Hill ex Maiden WOOD

Uma propriedade importante a ser estudada em rvores o teor de umidade natural, mas pouca import ￠ncia tem sido dada e praticamente n ￡o se tem informa § μes sobre a influ ancia do manejo florestal na variabilidade intra e entre rvores dessa propriedade. Esse trabalho teve, ent ￡o, como objetivo verificar a influ ancia do desbaste no teor de umidade natural da madeira de Eucalyptus grandis. Foram utilizadas nove rvores (tr as por parcela) nos ensaios, com 18 anos de idade. Discos na base, meia altura e topo, da altura comercial foram retirados de cada rvore para determina § ￡o da umidade natural da madeira. De acordo com os resultados, p ′de-se concluir que as diferentes intensidades de desbaste influenciaram significativamente no teor de umidade natural, existindo uma tend ancia de aumentar com a intensidade de desbaste e diminuir no sentido da base para o topo na altura da rvore. An important property in trees to be studied is its natural moisture content, however just a little importance has been given and practically does not have any information about the influence of forest management in the variability within and among trees of this property. Thus this study aims to verify the influence of the thinning in the natural moisture content of the Eucalyptus grandis wood. Nine trees (three per unit), 18-year old grown, coming from experimental units, were used with. Disks at base, half-height and top of trunk commercial height were taken from each tree for determination of the natural moisture content. According to the results, we could be concluded that the different intensities of thinning influenced significantly in the natural moisture content, with a tendency of this property to increase with the intensity of the thinning and decrease in the direction from the base to the top in the height of the tree.
