The evaluation of the powerhouse model as a chemistry teaching aid

Abstract:

The report deals with the PowerHouse model, a didactic toy used in the Chemistry and Physics lessons in the third grade of secondary grammar school. It presents a brief characteristics of the whole kit needed to compose the model and to carry out experiments. It equally deals with the introduction of the model into the teaching process, the possibilities of the model use as a teaching aid and the model evaluation from the point of view of students as well as teachers. The PowerHouse model brings reality into the teaching process, the elements of environmental education and it connects various branches of teaching. That is why it was used in the practical part of the project with the environmental problematics the Sun in the web in the Chemistry and Physics team teaching process. The evaluation of the model was completed by a questionnaire filled in by students in which they anonymously evaluated not only the work with the model itself but also the overall contribution of the project. The teachers who used the model either in their teaching process or extracurricular activities evaluated if the model is a suitable teaching aid in the Chemistry and Physics teaching process from thetechnical, didactic and psychological point of view.
