Leituras possíveis / Other readings

O discurso hegem nico corrente a respeito da leitura a promove como uma atividade essencialmente positiva, n o havendo, de modo geral, espa o para posicionamentos contrários a esse. Porém, se para as classes favorecidas a importancia da leitura está em seu valor artístico e suas potencialidades libertadoras; para as classes desfavorecidas da sociedade, a leitura é relevante por possibilitar ascens o social, melhor posicionamento no mercado de trabalho. Neste breve ensaio, parto dessa quest o e, dando ênfase a suas possíveis consequências, penso o papel do (professor no) ensino de leitura/literatura em sala de aula. Para isso, conto principalmente com as contribui es teóricas de Abreu (1999), Moita Lopes (1996) e Paiva (2000) em um ensaio no qual procuro estabelecer uma rela o de causa e efeito entre o discurso acerca da leitura e a prática da leitura em sala de aula. Por fim, avento propostas de trabalho e proponho um posicionamento crítico do professor de leitura/literatura em sua prática profissional.The current hegemonic discourse about reading understands it as an essentially positive activity. The power of this idea is so that there is virtually no room for different viewpoints on this issue. However, while upper classes believe reading is important because of its artistic value and liberating potentialities; lower classes reckon the relevance of reading lays on its capacity to promote social ascent, a better job position in the work market. I start this brief essay taking these aspects into consideration and giving emphasis to their consequences so that I can reflect on the (teacher’s) role of reading/literature in the classroom. In order to do so, I make use of some of Abreu (1999), Moita Lopes (1996) and Paiva’s theoretical contributions to establish a close relation between the discourse about reading and the actual reading praxis in the classroom. At last, I suggest activities and propose a more critical behavior in the teaching of reading/literature.
