A interface Chat x RPG online: uma proposta didática / The interface Chat x Online RPG: a didactic proposal

Taking into consideration we are immersed in the globalized world, we sought to analyze the contributions, to language teaching, of working with role-playing games in online chats. In this paper, we analyzed one RPG game-chat played through the program iRPG and, based on presuppositions by Marcuschi, L.A. (2004), Araújo (2004) and Dolz, Schneuwly & Noverraz (2004), we aimed to (a) study the interaction in virtual environment; (b) analyze the discourse in RPG chat; and (c) propose an activity of genre retextualization. As a result, it was verified that working with digital textual genres enhances interaction among players; RPG, as an “ongoing” game, can be more significant to students; and the contrast between conventional and digital genres can improve students’ perception regarding peculiarities of the distinct environments.
