Abstract:

O artigo analisa as representa es sociais do ser professor. Para compreens o da natureza simbólica da profiss o, adotamos a Teoria das Representa es Sociais.Participaram do estudo 20 professoras efetivas da rede municipal de Jaboat o dos Guararapes, PE. O procedimento de coleta utilizado foi a entrevista. A análise de conteúdo orientou a interpreta o dos dados. Os resultados apontam que a voca o marca essas representa es sociais. Falta de reconhecimento, várias jornadas acumuladas e baixos salários ganham destaque nos depoimentos. Os resultados constituem um alerta para as políticas públicas resgatarem a valoriza o e reconhecimento social de docentes.The article analyzes the social representations of being a teacher. To understand the symbolic nature of the profession, we adopted the Theory of Social Representations. Twenty permanent teachers from Jaboat o dos Guararapés, PE, participated in the study. A collection procedure used was the interview. Content analysis guided the interpretation of data. The results indicate that the concept of vocation is pervasive in these representations. Other frequent subjects of comments are lack of recognition, accumulated work shifts, and low pay. The results constitute a warning for public polices to rescue the valuing and social recognition of teachers.
