COMPORTAMENTO DE GENóTIPOS DE ARROZ DE TERRAS ALTAS SOB SISTEMAS DE PLANTIO DIRETO E CONVENCIONAL

BEHAVIOR OF UPLAND RICE GENOTYPES UNDERNO-TILLAGE AND CONVENTIONAL TILLAGEThis study aimed to compare the performance of uplandrice cultivars and experimental lines under no-tillage andconventional planting system, as well as to verify if there wasdifferentiated responses from tested genotypes in the two tillagesystems. For so much, two experiments, one under no-tillageand another under conventional tillage, were conducted at Lambari,Minas Gerais State, Brazil, repeated in the 2003/2004 and2004/2005 growing seasons. Thirteen cultivars/experimental lineswere tested. A randomized block design with three replicationswas used. Grain yield, plant height, flowering, and diseaseincidence were analyzed. Rice genotypes evaluated showedsimilar behavior in grain yield in the two tillage systems. In theno-tillage system, there was a tendency for reduction in plantheight if compared to the conventional system. It was concludedthat the no-tillage system is a feasible alternative for upland ricecrop.
