Een Nederlands bewijs voor leven in de diepzee

Dutch evidence for life at the depths of the ocean An early Dutch finding of a living organism in the deep-sea is discussed. The organism proved to be a new species of the Pennatulida and was named Crinillum Siedenburgii after the Dutch officer Siedenburg who dredged the animal from the depth of the Bande Sea in 1858. This finding was made 10 years before the first of a series of expeditions by Wyville Thomson, confirming the existence of living organisms in the deep-sea.
