A partir de pesquisa de campo realizada entre grupos de romeiros devotos do Padre Cícero, no presente artigo procuro discutir os usos que estes fazem das express es “turismo” e “fazer turismo”. O argumento aqui apresentado é o de que os usos romeiros dessas express es s o muito mais do que um sistema classificatório através do qual eles procuram definir quem faz uma romaria por devo o ou por lazer. Na chave interpretativa aqui proposta o principal argumento é o de que o que está em jogo quando os romeiros usam essas express es é uma tens o relativa às transforma es que vêm ocorrendo tanto nas romarias (e nas formas como os romeiros vivenciam as mesmas), quanto nos significados delas para suas vidas, seja individualmente, seja como grupo. / Based on a fieldwork conducted among groups of Father Cicero s devotee pilgrims at the Brazilian state of Ceará, I try to discuss in this paper the use pilgrims make of the expressions "tourism" and "go touring”. The argument presented here is that the uses of these expressions are much more than a classification system through which they seek to define who goes on pilgrimage for devotion or for leisure. The main argument is that when the pilgrims use these expressions there is a tension related to the transformations that have been occurring on pilgrimages (and on the ways pilgrims experience them), as well as on the meanings of pilgrimages for their lives, either individually or as a group.
