Objetividade e subjetividade no estudo das religi es: desafios do trabalho de campo / Objectivity and subjectivity in the study of religions: challenges of the fieldwork

Uma grande parte dos pós-graduandos em ciências da religi o no Brasil s o nativos. Alguns, inclusive, s o fiéis de diferentes denomina es religiosas. Para eles, analisar os dogmas de sua própria religi o é um desafio. O texto analisa os problemas resultantes do trabalho de campo na religi o considerando os embates do contato entre o pesquisador e o grupo avaliado. As ciências humanas foram se distanciando de uma perspectiva objetiva e reconhecem agora o papel da subjetividade. Na nossa área específica, n o só o investigador tem suas próprias convic es religiosas, mas também o grupo estudado tem sua própria opini o sobre a sua religi o, sobre a religi o do outro, e também sobre o que eles acham que poderia ser a religi o a ser seguida pelo cientista. Nossos nativos n o s o ingênuos espectadores, nem s o meras subjetividades; nem s o meros sujeitos passivos, destituídos de pensamento aut nomo; nem s o proje es de nossas próprias mentes. / A great part of the postgraduate students of religious studies in Brazil are natives. Some are even activists of different religious denominations. For them, it is a challenge to analyze the dogmas of their own religion. The text analyzes the problems resulting from the fieldwork in religion considering the disputes between the researcher and the evaluated group. Human Sciences have gradually drawn away from an objective perspective and now recognize the role of subjectivity. In our particular field of study, not only does the investigator have his own religious convictions, but also the studied group has its own opinion about their religion, about the other’s religion, and also about what they think the religion followed by the scientist should be. Our natives are not na ve spectators, nor are they mere subjectivities; nor mere passive subjects deprived of autonomous thought; nor projections of our own minds.
