Ummah e narrativas: história e identidade da religi o islamica / Ummah and narratives: history and identity of the Islamic religion

Narratives and the constructed history of a group of people serve as resources for identity formation. This research seeks to understand how an Islamic identity at the Sociedade Beneficente Mul ulmana do Rio de Janeiro (SBMRJ) is influenced by the history of Muhammad (the prophet of Islam) and also by the narratives about the first community of Muslim believers. The work also describes the formation of Islam presenting the development of the ummah concept, the global community of Muslims, from the outset of the history of the Muslim people; in order to do that, there is a need to reconstruct the occasion in which Muhammad received the revelations of the Koran and the consequences for the societies of Mecca and Medina. The narratives about the beginning of Islam are linked with the concept of ummah, and it influences in the construction of identity of the Muslims who attend the SBMRJ. As narrativas e história construída de um povo servem como recursos para a forma o identitária. Esta pesquisa busca entender como a identidade islamica na Sociedade Beneficente Mu ulmana do Rio de Janeiro (SBMRJ) é influenciada pela história da vida de Muhammad (o profeta do Isl ) bem como pelas narrativas da primeira comunidade de fiéis mu ulmanos. O trabalho procura ainda descrever a forma o do Isl apresentando o desenvolvimento do conceito de ummah, comunidade global dos mu ulmanos, a partir do primeiro momento da história do povo mu ulmano; sendo que para isso, haverá a necessidade de reconstruir a ocasi o em que Muhammad recebeu as revela es do Alcor o e os desdobramentos nas sociedades de Meca e Medina. As narrativas sobre o início do Isl se relacionam com o conceito de ummah, e isso influencia na constru o da identidade para os fiéis mu ulmanos que se reúnem na SBMRJ.
