Abstract:

Liver transplantation procedure is a recognised method of treatment of chronic and acute liver diseases which offers opportunity for return to active life and improves its quality and saves from death. For many people, transplantation means a second chance of life and symbolises its new beginning. At present, 80-90% of patients survive over a year after transplantation with a prospect for a long-term survival. However, the factors connected with everyday life, physical activity, job, family, social situation and functioning of respective systems in the organism continue to affect the patient’s status. Therefore, an interest in studies referring to evaluation of the quality of life of patients and their motor activity has been observed in worldwide medical literature. The level of quality of life refers to complex evaluation of physical health status, emotional status, self-reliance and independence of the surroundings, relations with environment, and personal views and convictions. On the other hand, regular motor activity remarkably affects the decline of mortality due to cardiovascular diseases and of general mortality and decreases the risk of obesity, overweight, diabetes, and osteoporosis or tumour diseases. One of the methods of motor activity evaluation, as in case of the evaluation of quality of life, are questionnaires fitted to different studies and appropriate age groups. Unfortunately, lack of unified research methods leads to a certain confusion in the conducted studies, but also the amount of papers which connect surgery outcomes with changes taking place in the psyche of patients and their adaptation to everyday life and professional work is small. Therefore, this study aims at both, presenting the most frequently used questionnaires for evaluation of quality of life and physical activity in people after liver transplantation and making a review of studies related to this subject matter.
