Levofloxacin in the treatment of Helicobacter pylori infectionKeywords: H. pylori , amoxicillin , metronidazole , levofloxacin , Abstract: Introduction: The resistance of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) strains to metronidazole and clarithromycin increases in many countries. Therefore, other antibiotics are being introduced into the treatment, mainly derivatives of quinolones. Aim of the study: Assessment of the levofloxacin effectiveness in the H. pylori infection treatment. Material and methods: In the study a 7-day therapy was applied in 25 patients (group I) with pantoprazole (2×40 mg), amoxicillin (2×1000 mg) and metronizadole (2×500 mg) and in group II (n=25) metronidazole was replaced by levofloxacin (2×500 mg). Results: H. pylori eradication was achieved in 72.0% of group I patients and in 88.0% of group II patients. Conclusions: The results confirm the opinions of other authors about good tolerability and efficacy of levofloxacin in the treatment of H. pylori infection.
