Comparative Study of Synthetic Hormones Ovaprim and Carp Pituitary Extract Used in Induced Breeding in Indian Major CarpKeywords: Indian major carps , Pituitary extract , Ovaprim-induced breeding. Abstract: In the present study during June –August (2012).observed the spawning response of ovaprim was compared with pituitary extract in Indian major carps. The drug prepared based on the 'Linpe' method of breeding China, contains of an analogue of salmon gonatodropin releasing hormone and the dopamine antagonist, domparidone breeding response of the three major carps was evaluated vis;a vis that obtained in the controls. Inject split dose of carp pituitary extract, and a single dose of ovaprim. All the three species could be bred with a single intra-muscular injection of ovaprim of different dose 0.5-0.2 ml/kg body weight. The percentage of fertilization ranged with August 2012(75- 90%) was found with ovaprim and August 2012(65- 80%) pituitary extract. The present study suggests that ovaprim might be considered best substitute for pituitary extract during induced breeding.
