Abstract:

The media’s mighty presence in current society has raised a series of debates and questions about its relationship with children. The workshops implementation took place between the months of May and July of 2011, a total of 15 meetings, and was structured in four complementary and sometimes simultaneous steps: students’ literacy in comic books language, connotative reading of plots and characters, critical reading of the content and the production of comic books by participants. The theoretical reference that supports the discussions and practices includes the contribution of researchers from mediaeducation, of comic books and their relationship to the educational processes. The workshops analysis is based on the articulation between the conceptual aspects of mediaeducation, the data observed during the research and evaluation of participants, parents and teachers. The considerations undertaken point to the need of understanding the mediaeducative praxis as a space for mediation, the articulation between the participants’ production of meaning and their critical reading, the enhancement of
