METáFORAS/ METONíMIAS CONCEPTUAIS NO DISCURSO DE LUIZ INáCIO LULA DA SILVA (PRESIDENTE)

This article presents results of the research about metaphors and metonymies in discourse of President Lula and the semantic-discursive function(s) of metaphorical and metonymical expressions which were found in this discursive genre. We have used for this investigation contributions from authors such as Lakoff e Johnson (2002[1980], 2003), Barcelona (2003) to investigate conceptual metaphors and conceptual metonymies, and Koch (1992) and Castilho e Castilho (1993) to investigate the semantic-discursive functions of metaphorical and metonymical expressions. This work analyses throughout the Modalization Theory how conceptual metaphors and conceptual metonymies are used as discursive strategy by the President.
