Experimental Investigation of the Viscous Behavior of Al2O3 Based Nanorefrigerant

Abstract:

Nanorefrigerant is one kind of nanofluids that seems to be possessing better heat transfer performance over traditional refrigerants. Viscosity is an important thermo physical property of the refrigeration which affects its performance. Our investigation is done on viscosity of Al2O3–R11 nanorefrigerant at different nanoparticle concentrations and temperature. Al2O3 (20nm) nanoparticles are mixed with the refrigerant R-11 at varying concentration (0.01- 0.05 vol %) using ultrasonic vibration. The objective of this study is to investigate the dependence of viscosity of Al2O3–R11 nanorefrigerant on temperature (4-160C) at different volume concentrations. Based on the experimental analysis it is found that viscosity augmented significantly with the increase of volume concentrations. Therefore, low volume concentration (upto0.03%) of nano-refrigerant can improve the performance of a refrigeration system in the temperature range from 4-160C.
