The replacement of ascending aorta with a composite graft: experience of a public hospital

Abstract:

Objective: Composite valve replacement procedure for ascending aortic aneurysms with aortic valve insufficiency is widely applied in the present. The aim of this study was to investigate retrospectively early and midterm results of Bentall procedure. Material and Methods: In this study, the early and midterm outcomes of 8 patients diagnosed with aortic aneurysm and/or dissection and undergone to Bentall procedure at the Public Hospital in 5 years, where the open heart surgery programme started at 2003 were investigated. Results: No mortality was observed in the early post-operative period. One patient died due to intracranial bleeding in the late post-operative period (postoperative 1 year). Conclusion: Surgical procedure of Bentall can be applied with success in the early and mid-term in experienced and physical infrastructured environment even it is in the state hospitals with currently more technological facilities and perioperative monitoring systems.
