Y ntem: Bu al ma Ocak 2009 ve Aral k 2010 tarihleri aras nda Sakarya’da bulunan tüm devlet ve zel hastanelerin acil servislerine intihar giri imi nedeniyle ba vuran hastalar n (n=1566) verileri incelenerek ger ekle tirilmi tir. Bulgular: ki y l i in 15 ya ve üzeri kaba intihar giri im h z kad n ve erkeklerde s ras yla 100000 nüfusta 191.98 ve 51.88’dir. Toplam 1566 vakan n 1236 (%78.9)’s kad n, 330 (%21.1)’u erkektir ve o u 15-24 ya grubundad r. Hem kad nlarda ve hem de erkeklerde en s k ba vurulan intihar ekli ise ila ve toksik madde kullan m idi ve s kl k erkek ve kad nlarda s ras yla %93.8, %96.8 idi. Tekrarlanan intihar giri im s kl kad nlarda %17.2 ve erkeklerde %13.9 bulunmu tur. Sonu : Bu ara t rmada intihar giri im s kl kad nlarda erkeklerden daha yüksek bulunmu tur. Anahtar Kelimeler: ntihar giri imi, s kl k, tekrarlayan intihar giri imi Evaluation of suicide attempts in Sakarya Objective: The objectives of this study were to evaluate the general characteristics, the methods that were used and the causes of suicide attempts for the years of 2009-2010 in Sakarya. Methods: The data were gathered from emergency rooms of all public and private hospitals by using a suicide attempt registration form. All patients (n=1566) admitted to the emergency rooms of the hospitals and who had attempted suicide in the period from January 2009 to December 2010 were included in this study. Results: The prevalence of suicide attempts was 191.98 per 100000 population in women and 51.88 per 100000 population in men.One thousand two hundred and thirty six of the total of 1566 (78.9%) suicide attempts during the specified period were committed by females, while the remaining 330 (21.1%) were committed by males; the suicide attempts were concentrated in 15-24 age group. Usage of drugs and toxic substances is the most frequently used method for suicide attempts for both sexes (93.9 % in males, 96.8 % in females). Two hundred and twelve females (17.2%) and 46 males (13.9%) repeated suicide attempt at least once or more. Conclusions: The frequency of suicide attempts was higher among females. In addition,
