Consequence of the ostomy for patients and your family

Objective: to analyze the consequences of the intestine ostomy for patients and families. Methodology: this article presents a bibliography search, with it analyzes of 15 scientific articles, was raised by Lilacs and Scielo, published in the period from 2000 to 2008, using descriptors: ostomy, nursing care and family relations. Results: the material was related to two themes, the return to life with the use of scholarship and collecting activities of professional nursing. The stoma person seems that in addition to overcoming the disease and stoma is another challenge, the return to their daily lives. At the beginning seems to be a difficult phase for both stoma and for your family and friends. Conclusion: showed up feelings of mutilation due to change of body image, and support of the friends and family as essential elements. But for that the family can help in rehabilitation, it also needs care. The reception through education and guidance to professionals trained and able to give emotional and technical support for the stoma can help. The stoma cares require very sensitive actions, which move with the bearer’s self-esteem, change your routine as well as their relations.
