La juventud musulmana de Madrid responde: lugar y participación social de las asociaciones socioculturales formadas o revitalizadas después de los atentados del 11-M

In this article, I will reflect about the reaction of young Muslims from Madrid toward the march 11 2004 bombings. This reaction was preceded by the fear of reprisals as well as by the intention of showing their way of understanding Islam and Muslim concepts and attitudes. These two triggers motivated the revitalization and creation of associations under the idea of finding a place to claim in the social and political arena. To know the nature and features of this reaction, I will describe the new Muslim associations flourished behind the shock and personal contradiction between their meaning of ‘being a Muslim’ and the images of Muslim attitudes showed by mass media during those days. Moreover, I will analyse the meaning of their participation and social place taken up by them.
