Patrimonio architettonico e urbano coloniale in Mediterraneo: Uno stato della questione

The architectural and urban productions of the last two centuries are inescapable components of present day towns in the Mediterranean area. Modernization and industrialization in the late Ottoman era and during the colonial time produced a legacy that can not be engaged with the "traditional" procedure for safeguard. Rather than old instruments, the recent inheritance integration into the contemporary spaces tackles with global strategies able to embed it into the vital needs and assets of the nowadays societies. Colonial and post-colonial studies on material production are particularly useful because of the relationship between the material objects and theirs environments: they are among the first “object/subjects” involved in the on going deterritorialization. They participate in several contemporary and multi-dimension processes of appropriation (both in semantic and spatial fields); they try to legitimate themselves into a variety of territories, therefore they are not fully belonging to anyone.
