This is a critical and comparative reading of the manuscripts of The Ego and the Id. We can read in this work a dissymmetry between the repressed unconscious and the material that remains unknown. We depart from chapter IV, "The two kinds of Drives". As Freud announces, the matters he displays resume thoughts from his writings of 1920. So, starting with the redefinition of Ucs and afterwards, with the reformulation of the idea of Todestrieb, they remain much closer to psychoanalysis than Beyond the pleasure principle.
