Prediction of Stature and Their Correlation Based On Hand Length of population in and around Davangere (India)

The establishment of identification, the age, sex, stature and race of the person are the primary criteria’s (big fours) of identification. Among them, determination of the stature is an important and essential step towards establishing identity unknown persons from their body parts / skeletal remains. Assessment of body height from different parts of body by anthropometric study of skeleton is an area of interest to Forensic Experts and Anthropologists. To analyze the relationship between stature and hand dimensions for forensic applications, the present study is carried out in S. S. Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Davangere, Karnataka. The stature and hand length of 100 students (50 males and 50 females) of in and around Davangere are randomly selected. After collection of data, it is subjected to statistical analysis. Mean, Standard Deviation, Range for Height, Right Hand length and Left Hand length is calculated. The correlation coefficients were found to be statistically significant for the hand dimensions in both the sexes. The results of the present study indicate that the hand length can be efficiently used for estimation of stature
