Efeito do sexo e idade na produ o do VOT

The present study was conducted to investigate the variability of voice onset time (VOT) in the Brazilian Portuguese consonant /k/ under effect of vowel context, sex and age. 20 speakers participated: 5 adult women, 5 adult men, 5 elderly women and 5 elderly men. The participants read a small text with the consonant in the context CVC followed by /a/ and /e/. The VOT was measured from the beginning of the burst until the beginning of the following vowel vibration. It was possible to observe that the context did not have influence on VOT. However, sex and age presented a statistically significant difference.
