Mineralogical characteristics and textural properties of acid-activated glauconiteKeywords: glauconite , acid activation , surface area , microporosity Abstract: The authors activated glauconite from the Lubartowska Lowland (E Poland) in 3M HCl for1, 3, 4 and 7h at 100C and studied impact of the activation on mineralogical and textural features (specificsurface area, porosity and microporosity) of the mineral. Acid activation does not destroy the glauconite: itslayer structure has been preserved despite leaching a considerable number (about 60%) of octahedralcations. The activation has significantly increased major textural parameters of the glauconite, i.e. its specificsurface, porosity and microporosity.
