A elabora o deste texto responde à necessidade de expor um modo de entender e de fazer Geografia Urbana, disto decorre título que lhe atribuímos. Foram consideradas as categorias lógicas e os fundamentos históricos que permitem estruturar o conhecimento das cidades e das regi es urbanas implicados no movimento da modernidade contemporanea. Dois assuntos mereceram reflex o: a naturaliza o dos processos sociais, tomando-se como objeto as interven es na Bacia do Rio Tietê em S o Paulo, tendo em vista as enchentes periódicas. O outro se refere à cultura como economia; aqui s o apreciadas as teses de Harvey e Cosgrove refletindo sobre o desencontro entre meios materiais de vida e modos de vida das popula es tradicionais de S o Paulo. The Urban Geography We Do Abstract: The production of this paper addresses the need to convey a way of understanding and making urban geography, from there, follows its title: "The Urban Geography we do." We considered the logical categories and historical foundations that allow structuring the knowledge of cities and urban regions implicated in the movement of contemporary modernity. Two issues deserve consideration: the naturalization of social processes, having as object the interventions in the Tietê River Basin in S o Paulo, aiming towards its seasonal floodings. The other issue refers to the changing culture of the economy; here are appreciated the theses of Harvey and Cosgrove reflecting on the mismatch between the material means of life and the way of life S o Paulo’s traditional populations.
