In this paper we shall examine the role of the work of the Independent Expert on the issue of human rights obligations related to access to safe drinking water and sanitation, commissioned in 2008, and whose mandate has been renewed in 2011 as Special Rapporteur on the human right to safe drinking water and sanitation has had in the development of this right.
