A casa assombrada: ensaio sobre o olharKeywords: The Fall of the House of Usher , Edgar Allan Poe. Psychoanalysis Abstract: The house is by excellence, the space of intimacy: “Remembering the houses, the rooms, we learn to live in ourselves (…) they are in us as much as we are in them” (Bachelard, 2005, p.20). The house as living space, not the I that protects the I, serves as a haven for daydreaming and refers to the origin in the home. It roots the man and creates a space belonging: In the life of man, the house keeps away contingencies, multiply his advices of continuity. Without it a man would be dispersed. It keeps the man through the storms of heaven and the storms of life (…) Before being thrown into the world, the man is placed in the cradle of the house.
