SPECIFICITY OF PROTECTIONISM IN THE GLOBAL ECONOMIC CRISIS

Experience of the previous crisissuggests that condition of crisis cause changes andshifts in foreign policy of countries. The subject ofthis paper is to analyze implementation ofprotectionist measures in conditions of the recentcrisis. Scope of the paper is to determine thespecificity and trends in the implementation ofprotectionist measures as a result of the globaleconomic crisis. Wanted answer relates to thequestion whether contemporary crisis has affectedthe intensity and types of implemented protectionistmeasures, and how this reflects to the futureliberalization of international trade regime.Preliminary results show that some protectionistmeasures have been more significantly and moreoften used, and that their implementation markedthe crisis. In contrast to tariff protectionism intimes of Great Depression, protectionism in timesof recent crisis includes wide range ofsophisticated, often invisible, non-tariff barriers,what is in the scientific literature characterized asthe murky or hidden protectionism. This implies theneed to identify the basic characteristic andevolutionary character of protectionism as a resultof the contemporary crisis.
