Abstract:

Introduction: The rise of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus - HIV has changed the clinical and epidemiological profile of tuberculosis - TB, increasing morbidity and mortality. About 5.6 million people worldwide are coinfected, 350,000 in Brazil. Objective: To identify the incidence rate of coinfection TB/HIV in Federal District (FD), relating it to social indicators. Methodology: A quantitative, observational, retrospective and socioeconomic study. The sample consisted of 46 patients with coinfection TB/HIV in the Federal District in 2007, according to information obtained from the Information System for Notifiable Diseases of FD. Results: The highest rates occurred in Varj o (14.49) and Paranoá (8.49), which possess Human Development Index (HDI) lower than the Federal District’s average. Asa Norte and Cruzeiro, which have high HDI, also showed a high incidence rate of TB/HIV. The highest rates were among those with low education. There is greater involvement of the male population (78%), especially the ones around 20-39 years. Conclusion: Areas of high HDI showed a coefficient of coinfection greater than the FD’s, which indicates the possible spreadof these diseases to higher social segments. AIDS has brought another level to tuberculosis, leading to the need for studies and interventions covering all segments of society.
